Trojan ‘Goes Purple’ to Shine the Light on Woman Abuse

Since 2007, the London Abused Women’s Centre (LAWC) has been running the highly successful “Shine the Light on Woman Abuse” campaign.

During the month of November, homes, neighborhoods, businesses, cities, and counties are encouraged to ‘go purple’ to raise awareness of violence against women. The campaign was designed to support abused women in understanding that any shame and/or blame felt, does not belong to them but to the perpetrators of their abuse; and to raise the profile of the community agencies that can provide abused women with help as they attempt to live their lives free from violence and abuse.

Continuing to Shine the Light

2017 marks Trojan’s 6th year supporting the campaign and to help raise awareness, Trojan sported purple lights in the cafeteria throughout the month. On December 15th (Wear Purple Day), many associates wore purple and beautiful merchandise was sold in the cafeteria.

Trojan raised over $700 through personal donations and the sale of scarves, socks, pins, and keychains – the proceeds of which was all donated to the London Abused Women’s Centre.

Let’s all continue to ‘Shine the Light’, and work to end abuse against women.

Hank Vander Laan at Trojan’s 40th Celebration

A 40th Anniversary Celebration to mark Trojan’s 40th Anniversary was held this past summer, and we were fortunate to have a number of people speak at the event including Trojan founder, Hank Vander Laan.

Hank served as Trojan’s leader for almost 25 years – as Founder, as President and CEO, and as the Chairman of the Board. For those years, he was the primary driving force, the entrepreneurial spirit and Trojan’s steadfast and beloved leader. For the past 15 years, he has remained an interested and engaged participant in Trojan’s life, and is still a contributor to its success.

Hank had a number of great memories and stories to share about Trojan’s history, as well as some words of wisdom.

Here are just a few selected highlights:

“Corporations are just not some cold neutral entity, but consist of people who have hopes, dreams, ambitions, families, sons and daughters – as do our customers and all those who ultimately participate and benefit from our combined efforts. In Trojan, we see this in spades.”

“Our always growing diversity, people and experience has allowed Trojan to have a leading and meaningful presence in every corner of the globe. How rich and satisfying this diversity – where every person can thrive and make a meaningful contribution.”

“The more I reflected on what really made this company what is is today – is the people. People like you and me. People with hopes and dreams for a better world we can all share in.”

“People at Trojan come from every walk of life, and from every race and tribe. Together, they give it their very best by listening carefully to one another, sharing their dreams, supporting and respecting one another, innovating together and seeking the best for one another.”
