Research and Development

We provide high quality and comprehensive water testing and piloting services for a wide range of markets

Microbiology Laboratory

The goal of our microbiology lab is to provide high quality analysis and service to our customers. We support a full range of customers including environmental specialists, engineering and consulting firms, and drinking water and wastewater treatment plants all across North America.  We also provide services to university researchers, research projects, and well-recognized water organizations and agencies.

Our researchers, scientists, and engineers are able to test a variety of waters to demonstrate the efficacy of UV treatment and UV advanced oxidation.

Our microbiology laboratory capabilities include testing for E. coli, Enterococci, Total and Fecal coliforms, and Heterotrophic Plate Counts (HPC). Our methods and procedures for routine testing follow standard methods including the membrane filter method and spread plate method.

In addition to microbial analysis, the microbiology laboratory also has the capability to perform a wide range of water tests to support system operations or as a pre-screen for compliance. These tests include:

  • Collimated beam testing
  • Particle size analysis
  • UV transmittance measurement
  • Turbidity measurement
  • Iron and various metals analysis
  • pH measurement
  • Hardness measurement
  • Tannin measurement
  • Total dissolved solids measurement
  • Total suspended solids measurement

Piloting

Our pilot team strives to provide our customers with reliable, responsive, quality solutions to their piloting questions and needs.

We offer a wide range of treatment systems for pilots treating flows ranging from 10 gallons per minute up to 30 million gallons per day. From initial inquiry to successful pilot completion, engage Trojan’s piloting services team to support your needs.

Some of our areas of expertise with respect to piloting are the following:

  • Site-specific chamber bioassay validation
  • In-house chamber challenge studies
  • Logistics and project management
  • Equipment set-up, operation & maintenance and classroom training
  • Pilot protocol development
  • Data collection, analysis, review and consultation
  • Reporting
  • Microbiology expertise

Environmental Contaminant Treatment Testing

Our team of scientists and researchers have analyzed thousands of water samples from around the world, and our industry-defining UV advanced oxidation systems have been installed at treatment plants from California to Australia to treat an array of contaminants, including 1,4-dioxane, NDMA, MIB and Geosmin.

It starts with a water sample.

We will measure characteristics of your water critical to UV-oxidation performance – such as UV transmittance, pH, nitrate ion concentration, and radical scavenging – to determine if the UV advanced oxidation process (UV AOP) makes sense for your treatment plant.
